Say, for example, that you’re going to depart for an Instrument Flight Rules (IFR) flight in fog. The Aeronautical Information Manual (AIM) defines the touchdown zone as the first 3,000 feet of the runway beginning at the threshold, and the touchdown zone markers are spaced 500 ft apart.
