Visual runways feature aiming point markings (described later on in this article) if the runway is 4,000ft or longer or used by jet aircraft. The Aeronautical Information Manual (AIM) defines the touchdown zone as the first 3,000 feet of the runway beginning at the threshold, and the touchdown zone markers are spaced 500 ft apart.
