A United Airlines Boeing 737 had a lucky escape after it struck a kite on its final approach to Washington-Reagan Airport (DCA) in the US capital. The incident involving the United Airlines aircraft and a kite occurred on Saturday, March 29, 2025, according to reports. As can be seen from the map.

I got out my instrument approach chart and studied the holding pattern and the VOR approach procedure. A few minutes later, we heard the center controller clear a Trans Missouri Airlines commuter plane for the VOR Runway 30 approach to Jefferson City. We were about 1/2 mile from the threshold.

Skyteam Airlines are assigned 2E for international routes and 2F for Schengen routes. At this point, we reached the threshold of the runway. Air France Concorde on display.

As 2024 draws to a close, there can be little doubt that, over the course of the year, airline safety has continued to reach new levels, with fewer accidents, fewer aircraft being written off, and fewer fatalities. Numbers for 2024 are likely to be similar, given what we already know as we approach the end of the year.
