Living just a half hour away, I have grown familiar with travel to and from EWR, and most of my airline experience has been positive. Not the airlines fault. After smoothly clearing customs at ATL, we boarded our Boeing 737-900 for the 10:50 pm flight to EWR. Lucia, only to be foiled at the 11th hour by an expired passport.

These cockpits combine all traditional instruments on multi-function displays (MFDs). This is called the Primary Flight Display (PFD). Most modern jets have glass cockpits if you plan to fly commercially at the airlines. The main instruments in our six-pack are consolidated onto one screen. Which Is Safer?

As background in the bulletin, the FAA calls attention to the 2009 Colgan Air Dash 8 airliner crash in New York, and the flying pilot’s “inappropriate response to the airplane’s stick shaker” and the resulting low speed and eventual stall. For an OEM standard, I think the system can work well.

The AC recommends using position data from an installed GNSS source.
