For the next segment of my quick trip to Japan & Korea ,I flew Japan Airlines Airbus A350-900 first class on the 1hr30min flight from Sapporo (CTS) to Tokyo Haneda (HND). Most OMAAT readers are probably familiar with the incredible Japan Airlines A350-1000 first class , which I rank as being among the best in the world.

A LATAM jet departing Italy for Brazil suffered a tail strike on takeoff, in what can only be described as a rather strange incident, as reported by The Aviation Herald. At 1:26PM local time, the aircraft took off from Milan Malpensa Airport’s runway 35L. However, while rotating, the jet struck its tail on the runway.

The eleven-year-old Boeing 777-300ER, owned by Latam Airlines and registered in Brazil as PT-MUG, was operating flight LA8073 from Milan to São Paulo, Brazil. Based on the pictures I’ve seen, it looks like the Delta A350 was heading down a taxiway, while the Delta Connection CRJ-900 was standing on an intersecting taxiway, at which point the A350 hit the tail of the CRJ-900 with its wing.

It almost feels like the airline has totally given up on its A380s. If you look carefully, youll even see the 747-8 in the back Lufthansa and Korean Air are the only airlines to fly both of those jets, and I find that to be pretty cool. Unlike most (but not all) other airlines, Korean Air has first class on the lower deck of the A380.

Whats exciting is that the airline recently started taking delivery of 787s , representing a new era for the carrier. The roughly five-year-old Dreamliner was intended for Chinas Hainan Airlines, then flew for Vietnams Bamboo Airways, and then it was transfered to Austrian.
