Investigators noted at the time of the accident the temperature was 30 degrees Celsius, the dew point was 4 C, and the altimeter setting was 29.98. The pilot was distracted, and flew too low, striking several approach lights short of the runway threshold. The wings and fuselage sustained substantial damage.

If it prevents you from landing close to the threshold, a short runway becomes even shorter. Full flaps are generally used since they lower approach speed and increase drag. The drag allows for a steeper descent, which is particularly helpful when avoiding obstacles. Our imaginary destination airport is at 1,500 feet MSL.
