This particular 172 normally cruised at 120 mph indicated airspeed, but with the ice it would barely do 90 mph and that required full throttle! I was to realize much later that I had just enrolled in the School of Hard Knocks for instrument pilots. Class had begun for one young and inexperienced instrument pilot.
