Even after stretching the fuselage and adding so-called family seats to the S35 V-tail model, the Bonanza wasn’t capable of seating six full-sized adults. But the 1968 model year brought a true six-place Bonanza with aft cabin doors and a conventional tail. With an annual inspection due in a month, it was priced at $220,000.

About 30 miles out I called Approach Control, told ’em I was VFR and squawking 0600. I figured I’d stay up there and by the time I got to Wichita the bases would be pretty good and if the stuff was still solid I’d get Approach Control and set up an instrument approach. as I remember, which was LAX approach.

You may lust after a vintage Beech Staggerwing , but a radial-engine tail-wheel airplane with unique quirks will need to be approached with a careful transition. Beech’s best four-seater value is the straight-tail F33A, produced through 1994. In a more practical sense, make sure you’re able to safely fly your dream aircraft.

According to CAA documents, the aircraft was modified with a 300hp engine and a Hamilton-Standard propeller, underwent weight-and-balance checks and an annual inspection. After the war, the aircraft passed through a few more owners, such as North Country Airways of Saranock Lake, NY before being acquired by Jack Baird of Marshall, MI.
