It was evidence that high wing pilots who buy low wing airplanes need to process their surroundings in a different way. While grumpily snapping off switches during the shut down flow, I reached for the avionics master switch and noticed for the first time that the ship's ammeter was pegged at zero.

The pilot had topped off the plane for the two-hour flight from Smyrna Airport (KMQY) to Palm Beach International Airport (KPBI) in Florida. After taxiing to Runway 32, he was instructed to turn to a heading of 090 after takeoff and maintain 3,000. Subscribe Now OK, the pilot replied, were going 090 at or above 3,000.
