It took quite a while before we were finally out of the clouds and by then we were on final approach into Taipei Taoyuan Airport. Usually the landing light is turned on during take off and on final approach into the arrival airport during night time. Overall it was a nice and pleasant flight.

On the 25th of November 2024, a Boeing 737-400 crashed on final approach to Vilnius airport with one fatality. The 31-year-old cargo aircraft, registered in Spain as EC-MFE, was operated by Swiftair on behalf of the German logistics group DHL for a routine cargo flight from Leipzig, Germany, to Vilnius, Lithuania.

Having been cruising along at around 500 miles per hour (800 kph) or so, depending on aircraft type, the crew will need to reduce this to around 150 mph (240 kph) for the final approach, and even lower for the actual landing itself. At this point, the use of the aircraft’s flaps becomes critical.

With a single runway (17/35) in operation and smaller capacity airport compared to Milan (MXP) airport, there are airlines from other parts of Europe flies to this airport while for international airlines from other continents would fly to MXP airport instead. We started our taxi to runway 35. Off we go, goodbye Milan!

For the cargo side, Sky Express aircargo was established at a later date, joining venture with Finaval Group and established routes between Europe and the Far East. Currently the airport has 2 terminals, the main and the satallite terminal and uses 2 runways, runway 03L/21R and 03R/21R.

Anyway, we landed at runway 20R and that means one thing, a good view of the traffic along the expressway as our aircraft taxied across the bridge (south cross) to get to Terminal 2. At this point, we were on final approach as landing gears were deployed and flaps were set. On final approach onto runway 20R.

This was my flight's final assigned gate. I spotted another green stripes livery on this A330-900neo on final approach to this airport. Window shot photos After pushed back, we took about 15 minutes to reach the runway. Lufthansa Cargo's Boeing 777F replaced the fleet of MD-11F and now operating just this aircraft type.

Once our plane pushed back, it took us about 15 minutes to reach the active runway, runway 20C and took off in a very wet condition. We started rolling down the runway. The southeast part of Singapore with the cargo ships dominating the sea. We were on final approach into Taipei Taoyuan Airport.

Photo: EPS1) After 10 minutes of taxi, we were near the threshold of the runway. The approach and landing in Taipei was a smooth affair. On final approach We touched down 13 minutes late. Passing by one of JAL's aircraft in the special livery. This is the special livery 787-8 (Expo 2025 - JA823J) aircraft.

On that day, there were three commercial flights and a cargo flight flying from Taipei to Singapore and would return to Taipei after a short layover. After 20 minutes of taxi, we reached runway 20L. At this point, we were on final approach to Taipei Taoyuan Airport. Starlux uses terminal 1 for flights in Singapore.

As we approached YYT, it went down below ILS minimums, and we had to divert once more to YZV (Sept-les QC, Canada) while rapidly running out of fuel and ideas in the morning hours after a long flight. Fortunately, there is a runway at the end of every ILS. If an airport has a single runway, its always possible it may close.

2024, a Boeing 737-400 freighter operated by Swift Air of Spain on behalf of global logistics giant DHL crashed on final approach into Vilnius Airport (VNO) in Lithuania, the aircraft’s intended destination. The aircraft involved in the Vilnius incident was operated by Spanish all-cargo airline Swift Air under contract to DHL.
