After all, I had just aced my checkride. This particular 172 normally cruised at 120 mph indicated airspeed, but with the ice it would barely do 90 mph and that required full throttle! As we flew the holding pattern, I realized the airspeed indicator had been showing just 65 mph when we broke through the inversion layer.
