Sitting in the flight deck during the cruise portion of any flight may have a tendency to become monotonous. If the wind is as shown by the landing direction indicator, the pilot should land on Runway 9 and expect a crosswind from the right. Runway 27 and expect a crosswind from the right. 040° and 220° true.

The small aileron “tabs” were not doing a great job in crosswind ability. Landing was wild, leading to the aircraft’s big wings striking the ground at times in the crosswinds approaching 35 knots. By neutralizing the yoke, I lost the ability to steer and attack whatever crosswind component was evident. This was in XP12.

Ground School The 747 ground school consists of lots of CBT (Computer Based Training), classroom briefings with an engineer, and practicing systems and procedures on an IPT trainer (basically a Boeing 747-8 flight deck made from touch screens). The class consists of just me and my training partner.
