The postaccident examination revealed a fuel leak in a fitting where the fuel line passes through the firewall to the engine. The airplane made a slow descent toward the east for about nine minutes, away from the destination airport. The airplane then turned west back toward the airport and continued a slow descent.

In 2008, the aircraft was purchased by Mike Schilling of Kenai, Alaska, and trucked to Geraldton, Ontario, where it was completely restored from the firewall back by Recon Air. Our approach to Base Camp started with a circling descent to a southbound left base that took us between Mounts Frances and Crosson.

Climbs and descents were normal, and while not stunning, it seemed like this airplane could carry a load up and over the hills if needed—even though it is designed to operate down low.
