The postaccident examination revealed a fuel leak in a fitting where the fuel line passes through the firewall to the engine. The left-engine propeller was not feathered at the accident site, which resulted in additional in-flight drag and a higher minimum controllable airspeed (VMC).

To the Firewall (Power) Quick and smooth power application is also required to minimize altitude loss during stall recovery. While takeoff flaps improve performance, they also add unwanted drag. Furthermore, you must immediately remove one notch of the flaps to reduce the wing’s drag.

Its even better here, with generous hip- and legroom between the convex doors and the structural center console that runs from the firewall through the cabin to the baggage bulkhead. You do have to remember that its a slick airplane with a fixed-pitch prop, so you dont have much more drag to play with besides flaps.

Winging It Aside from the aforementioned desire for a greater aspect ratio for reduced drag, the one-piece Gweduck wing was developed for minimal weight, ease of construction and benign handling. Keeping drag corralled was emphasized as the Gweduck mission is foremost long-distance cruising. Maintenance room is generally very good.
