Disabled Traveler Sues American Airlines Over Disregard For Law

One Mile at a Time

A couple of days ago, I covered a lawsuit whereby a disabled passenger sued American Airlines over a recent experience on a transatlantic flight. She reached out regarding my story, and I have to issue an apology, as I didn’t do justice to the core of the complaint, and that’s my fault. I promise to try and do better in the future, starting with covering this topic once again, to accurately reflect the claims made.

Shutdown Checklist

Plane and Pilot

We rolled into the gate at William P. Hobby Airport (KHOU) in Houston a few hours late. I was frazzled. The day began with a round trip to Columbia, South Carolina, where a solid shaft of rain parked on the airport as we were being vectored to the approach. The long runway was out of service. The only runway remaining with a precision approach had a 5-knot tailwind, which was legal, but the wet runway, combined with a modest length, added a couple of variables that we didn’t want to tangle with

Why The Boeing 787-10 Dreamliner Has Such A Long Fuselage

Simple Flying

Why did Boeing stretch its Dreamliner family to a fuselage length of 224ft (68 m) on the 787-10, making it a full 38 ft (12 m) longer than the original Boeing 787-8 ? In an era when airlines demand both efficiency and flexibility, the Boeing 787-10’s extra length delivers up to 330 seats in a two-class layout, nearly 40 more than the Boeing 787-9 and almost 90 more than the Boeing 787-8, without the time, cost, or certification burden of designing an entirely new wing or tail.
