A huge volcanic eruption in Indonesia has forced many airlines to cancel flights as they cautiously avoid the surrounding area where significant amounts of ash have flooded the sky. Mount Lewotobi Laki Laki erupted on July 7, 2025, sending volcanic material up to 18 kilometers (11 miles) into the atmosphere. According to the Associated Press , Indonesia’s Geology Agency, lava travelled from the volcano down the landside for up to five kilometers (three miles).
