Turkish Airlines soars to post robust 2024 financial performance

On March 4, 2025, Turkish Airlines announced its 2024 full year financial results, which show a US$2.4 billion net profit. Part of these funds will go straight to shareholders, since the airline, which has been buying back its own stock, will pay $260 million in dividends. The Turkish flag carrier achieved this positive result on a total revenue of US$22.7 billion, up 8.2% over the previous year, for a 10.5% net profit margin.

American Airlines petitions US Supreme Court over Northeast Alliance partnership

American Airlines has requested that the US Supreme Court evaluate its blocked Northeast Alliance (NEA) partnership with JetBlue, arguing that competition is not sufficient to declare a joint venture unlawful. In a petition released on March 3, 2025, American Airlines asked the US Court to review a decision made in November 2024 by the US Court of Appeals for the First Circuit, which invalidated a joint venture between American Airlines and JetBlue Airways.

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is to issue airworthiness directives (ADs) to US airlines concerning the engine nacelles on older generation Boeing 737 airplanes. It is hoped that the issuance of the ADs will prevent a recurrence of an incident in 2018 in which an engine suffered an uncontained engine failure on one of its Boeing 737-700s and another earlier incident in 2016 involving the same type and the same carrier.

In a stunning, glowing image, NASA has captured the moment that Boom Supersonics XB-1 demonstrator broke the sound barrier in tests last month. During a supersonic flight test over the Mojave Desert on February 10, 2025, NASA and Boom Supersonic teamed up to photograph XB-1 travelling above the speed of sound using Schlieren photography. Boom Supersonic said that the Schlieren technique is used to visualize the shock waves resulting from XB-1 pushing through the air at supersonic speeds.
