Vintage WW2-era US Navy plane flies from US to UK for series of VE Day events

Operated by the Dallas-Fort Worth Wing of the Commemorative Air Force (CAF) and based in Lancaster in the US state of Texas, the aircraft arrived at the Imperial War Museum (IWM) airfield at Duxford near Cambridge, UK, on Monday, April 28 April 2025, after its approximately 4,800-mile (7,680km) ferry flight from Texas.

The C-47 also had an astrodome positioned in the cabin roof, strengthened floor components, a double cargo door and a shortened tail-cone for glider-towing shackles, all of which the C-49 did not have. In January 2017, it was cleared for a maintenance ferry flight from Frederick to Tulsa. The old gal is maintenance intensive.
