Towards the top of the Flights tab you’ll see a two-position button for ETD or ETA (requires a Performance Plus plan). This makes it easy to file a flight plan with the perfect ETD. Under the Fuel section of a flight, tap the Fuel Policy line to see different options.

Flight Planning A pilot encountered 32-35 knot headwinds at cruise. The PIC wrote, Flight planning will be better done and executed to prevent such an incident from happening again. He then did a weight and balance check and found that he needed to reduce the weight to within maximum gross weight.

In order to be flown by a sport pilot, the resulting airplane must still meet the current regulations—1,320 pounds maximum gross weight, 120 knots max cruise speed, for example—but how it gets there is up to the builder. The ELSA is a different animal. There are other options, including a three-blade Sensenich prop ($1,100).

The equipment was often not much modernized from the military days so the pilots likely hoped for good weather as they filed their flight plans. With 10 passengers and luggage on board the airplane, it was well under gross weight, but it soon became apparent we could not out climb the ice buildup.

I’ve even flown without talking to ATC or filing a flight plan. And no matter how many times I do that flight, there’s always something new to see. Maybe my attitude toward these flights is wrong. Should I treat every VFR hop like I’m departing into low IMC with a 10,000-foot density altitude at max gross weight?
