Before anything else, these are single-engine, unpressurized two-seat lightweights with a max gross weight of 1320 pounds. Check that against the max gross of a Piper Malibu at roughly 4300 pounds, or a Beech A36 Bonanza at around 3650 pounds or a Cessna 150 at 1600 pounds gross. GPH on 92 knots. Same for gliders.

However, I am always aware that VA hovers somewhere near 100 knots, and VB may be even less, both depending on gross weight. A quick check of the POH usually lets us know that both VA and VB may be below our regular cruising speed and the yellow arc. My trusty strutless Cardinal loves to descend and builds up speed quickly.

During preflight, I used the EFB to add fuel and reserves, keeping the weight below the need for water injection, called a “wet takeoff,” which is standard operating procedure when the DC-6 is over 89,000 lbs gross weight. The FAA proposed 250 knots, and I know of no designs in the LSA/MOSAIC space that can cruise at such a velocity. Clean stall speed will rise from 45 knots to 54 knots or more.
