A witness reported that they saw the airplane lift off from the runway and remain in ground effect until it crossed the departure end of the runway. The pilot applied right rudder in an attempt to correct this, resulting in a ground loop. He had no further memory of the event.

Those familiar phrases more right rudder, watch your airspeed, flare, flare, flare! The airspeed indicator registered 55 knots, close to the Cessna 172s stall speed. Just before touching down, I checked my airspeed and the pit in my stomach deepened: 85 knots far above the 172s normal landing speed of 65 knots.
