Restoration Begins: Project Warbird Breathes New Life into Consolidated LB.30 Liberator II AL557

With support from historian Gerad Blume and fabricator Ray Moore of Hangar Thirteen , the multi-phase recovery and restoration of AL557 is now well underway. Blume elaborated, She was equipped with two Boulton Paul turretsa Type A on top and a Type E in the tail. Project Warbirds leader, Eric Miller, is second from right.

Rebirth of FG-1D Corsair 92460

Though not quite finished, she is on display, warm and cared for in the museums hangar. It just so happened that 92460 was available, so a deal was made and the center section was sent to Texas along with the tail cone. From the cockpit back to the tail, 92460 is looking the part with the new painted control surfaces.

Wingtip Vortices and Wake Turbulence

As seen from the aircrafts tail, the vortex rotates in the anti-clockwise direction on the right wingtip and the clockwise direction on the left wingtip. A small Challenger 604 business jet flying at Flight Level 340 passed one thousand feet below an Airbus A380 flying the same route in the opposite direction.

I set the tail camera and climbed aboard. I circled over the lighthouse area to build altitude and keep clear of the inbound jet traffic. I made a nice landing on runway two-zero and taxied for the hangar. It was nice to meet Mike and Carrol. I gave them a ride to the terminal. Ok, back to the airplane stuff.
