A NOTAM closing Alton Bay was still active until 7:00 am that morning. As expected, the NOTAM closing the ice runway did expire and no new notification replaced it. "Wakey-Wakey, Eggs and Bakey" It almost did not happen. Additionally, a promising forecast nonetheless held some risk. I took my own advice and slept until 7:00 am.

Softened by excessive rain, the runway was NOTAMed closed. But space in the main hangar is incredibly limited and that relegates several other aircraft to sitting out in the weather. Unfortunately, the close confines of the MAAM hangar made getting a good photo of the unique artifact quite challenging. What is the museum to do?

Aircraft on the ground downwind from an eruption, even if hangared, should be cleaned frequently to prevent corrosion. Chemically, volcanic ash can be extremely corrosive, often producing sulfur dioxide and sulfuric acid when mixed with water or accumulated on aircraft. Engines should be dry cranked to ventilate them before startup.

I checked the hangar and had no bulb in my parts cabinet. I called the clearance delivery number on the OXB NOTAM but they gave me another number to call. a gallon, then secured hangar space for, you best sit down, $100 a night. I finished up my preflight with a fuel sump and light check, of course a marker light was out.

The exception is San Fernando (SADF), where there is only GA parking, and aircraft of 30 metric tons (GLF3) or less must park at a private apron or hangar because the airport concessionary (airport authorities) may not have parking positions available.
