Failure To Deice Cited In Fatal Phenom 300 Crash

The NTSBs final report noted that the aircraft had been removed from a heated hangar and refueled before sitting outside in freezing mist and snow for about 40 minutes without any deice or anti-ice treatment. Water droplets were observed on the wings at the time of refueling. The NTSB found no mechanical issues with the airframe or engine.

I set the tail camera and climbed aboard. Winds favored runway two-zero so I taxied out for departure. After picking up the weather in Cape May I joined the left down wind for runway two-eight to flow with traffic even though winds favored one-nine. I made a nice landing on runway two-zero and taxied for the hangar.

The familiar yellow Taylorcraft is parked by a galvanized corrugated steel roof shed-style hangar. With the airplane up on blocks and tied down in the hangar, I sent Andrew a photo. The ramp is empty, so I ask if hed like to taxi us to the departure end of the runway. The main road between the houses is the old runway.
