I filed a route of BRUIN to ART (Watertown VOR) to Kingston to avoid overflying significant portions of Lake Ontario. I filed a route from Kingston via the Ottawa VOR (far left of the chart above) then direct to Rockliffe to avoid the restricted areas entirely. Canada Aviation and Space Museum Reserve Hangar.

I also secured hangar space for the week to the tune of $75 a night. I launched from runway three-two and pointed for the Snow Hill VOR. Once south of Myrtle Beach I was turned direct Charleston VOR. Our original plan was to head to Galveston but with my knee giving me fits we thought it best to make a shorter flight.

ADFs, marker beacons, and VOR receivers, each relying on a constantly shrinking population of land-based navaids, fill these dated flight decks.

I was escorted outside by a docent who was supposed to have led the 2:30 pm Reserve Hangar tour, but was available because no one signed up for it. My filed route to Ogdensburg was via YOW (the Ottawa VOR) and IKLAX. Yes, I missed an opportunity for a one on one tour! Though completely unintentional, I liked the effect and kept it.

Reservations have been made, the estate tour is booked, rental car locked in, and hangar space secured. As we approached Barrett’s Mountain VOR you could make out the mountains ahead. Another nice landing and slow taxi to the hangar, it's good to be home. The whole process has become second nature. Mary and I had a fun time.

During my drive to the company hangar at the airport, I become increasingly convinced the captain will cancel our scheduled flight. I ignore him, select three VOR stations, determine our radial from each of them, draw it on the map, and determine our approximate position based on the intersection of the lines.

West of the Geneseo VOR, I passed high above Silver Lake and the gorge in Letchworth State Park. Behind me, the other Cherokee (a Cherokee Six) landed and aggressively made for the main commercial hangar building. Fortunately, the clearance was a simple one that morning because I was absurdly tongue tied while talking to Rochester.
