A steam gauge airspeed indicator, Garmin G3X, autopilot, Garmin G5, transponder, fuel selector, accelerometer, and steam gauge altimeter were centered directly in front of me. The Texas winds were gusting anywhere from 15-25 knots, and like other aerobatic airplanes, the canopy can be easily blown off. Takeoff Over 50-ft.

Published time to climb to 20,000 feet is 18 minutes, and cruise speeds are advertised to be 205 knots at 15,000 feet. Most A36 owners we talk with plan on 165 knots and 1,000 fpm climbs when lightly loaded. But that’s a good thing and translates directly to rock-solid stability—desirable in an IFR platform.

In order to be flown by a sport pilot, the resulting airplane must still meet the current regulations—1,320 pounds maximum gross weight, 120 knots max cruise speed, for example—but how it gets there is up to the builder. Airplanes in the LSA category have some performance limitations, so the RV-12 gets right to the 120-knot max cruise figure.

With seats for six, the Baron cruises comfortably at 190 knots while burning 22 gph. An STEC55x autopilot will be installed before delivery.
