Flying in the clouds in a single engine airplane when the OAT is below freezing is not a good idea! The general prognosis indicated no icing in the clouds, no turbulence and a quartering headwind from the west resulting in a mere five knots of headwind component. The OAT immediately shot up to +5 degrees C. We were free!

Bad data caused by turbulence, turns, and other anomalies was discarded. All of our flying started early in the mornings before afternoon turbulence and storms. After takeoff, the SID directs the pilot to fly south to the OATES intersection near Sedona, AZ. Pressure altitudes were converted to density altitude. We did both!
