The stability of the spinning disc increases with an increase in mass or speed of the disc. It may take a few seconds to several minutes for the gyroscope inside the AI to stabilize and the instrument to indicate correctly. The pitot-static system consists of one or more pitot tubes and static ports.

Just north of Jefferson City, the Kansas City Center controller cleared us to the Jeff City VOR, which was on the airport, to hold at 4,000 feet. I got out my instrument approach chart and studied the holding pattern and the VOR approach procedure. Then my worst fears became reality.
