The exhaust coming out of aircraft engines looks pretty dangerous, generating huge amounts of thrust and pushing back tons of hot air. By far the strongest component of wake turbulence is the swirling air generated at the tips of the aircrafts wings. Wake turbulence can cause severe roll and structural damage to smaller aircraft.

The general prognosis indicated no icing in the clouds, no turbulence and a quartering headwind from the west resulting in a mere five knots of headwind component. It was also destroying the propellers air foils causing a loss of thrust. It got turbulent, and then very turbulent. We were about 1/2 mile from the threshold.

Our aircraft pushed back on time and the Captain made the usual welcome speech and also told us to expect some turbulence along the way. Once take off, we encountered some light turbulence during our climb but the cabin service started during our climb and this is where I find the service to be a bit disappointing.

The flying condition towards Barcelona was nice and there was hardly any turbulence on this flight. At this point, we reached the threshold of the runway. The rain got a bit heavy at one point but it was hardly turbulent. Spoilers were armed while the reverse thrust was deployed to slow the aircraft. Touched down!

The International Air Transport Association (IATA) differentiates an accident from an incident by imposing a threshold of aircraft damage set at $1 million. During the landing, following an excessive pitch-up movement by the aircraft, its aft fuselage contacted the runway approximately 326 meters (1,070ft) beyond the runway threshold.

Somewhere over Pennsylvania a Cessna 208B Caravan with two pilots and the three passengers [was] going to a business meeting in the float-equipped airplane when they encountered clouds and turbulence. The pilot reported that he was too high and fast crossing the threshold 70 feet above ground level (AGL) at 90 mph. Not scared?

Depending on the wind direction and airport surroundings, you may experience some turbulence. This will reduce your workload in turbulent conditions. Descent Point Nominate a descent point that will give you a constant 3° profile to the threshold. This is because only one engine produces thrust. We multiply Vso by 1.3
