I filed IFR , mostly so that I could get the altitude I wanted without having to worry about cloud clearances, and so if some little squirt cumulus popped up, I could blast through it or just nick the side of it. I was glad that I had contingency packed.

I was escorted outside by a docent who was supposed to have led the 2:30 pm Reserve Hangar tour, but was available because no one signed up for it. But I also needed to be airborne at 3:00 pm or else amend my flight plan and arrival time with US Customs in Ogdensville, NY. Yes, I missed an opportunity for a one on one tour!

Off Sodus, I briefly leveled at 2,500 feet to remain visual until I received my instrument clearance from Rochester Approach. During flight planning, I determined that 8,000 feet would provide the best wind advantage of the available preferred westbound IFR cruise altitudes. It must have been the mutton chops.
