The company has been incredibly busy at this year’s event, with new deals signed with Swiss, Thai Airways and China Airlines. Boeing has signaled that the company is making progress with the certification process of both the 737 MAX 7 and MAX 10. In January 2024, Boeing decided to withdraw a safety exemption request for the smallest member of the 737 MAX family, the 737-7, that related to an anti-icing system that could lead to overheating of the inlet cowl. At the time Boeing forecast that a solution to the problem, which also affected the 737-10 certification process, could be found within 12 months.

Four Jetstar cabin crew members were taken to hospital after falling ill from aircraft fumes on a domestic flight. Flight JQ 966 arrived at Cairns Airport (CNS) from Coolangatta Airport (OOL) in the Gold Coast at around 09:30 local time on May 30, 2024. Passengers had disembarked the A320 aircraft when crew members noticed an unusual smell and began to feel nauseous.

The Australian aviation regulator, the Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA) has told an Australian Government Senate hearing that Virgin Australia is rostering pilots ‘closer to the limit’ of fatigue. CASA advised the hearing that almost 5% of pilots refused shifts due to tiredness in the previous 28-day roster period amid concerns about back-to-back 12-hour days, However, some pilots are “hesitant” to report fatigue issues out of fear of losing shifts.

During our trip to Geneva , we spent our last night at the 263-room Marriott Geneva. We had an early morning flight out of Geneva, so staying at the Marriott seemed like the best option, given that this is sort of an airport hotel. While I wasn’t able to check out everything (due to our early departure), I was generally impressed by this hotel. The Marriott Geneva only opened in 2022, so it’s one of the newer designed Marriotts, with modern rooms and nice public spaces.

At the start of the pandemic, Etihad Airways grounded its fleet of Airbus A380s. At the time, the plan was for the jets to be retired permanently. Fortunately executives at the airline had a change of heart, and in 2023, we saw the Abu Dhabi-based carrier’s A380s return to the skies. The fleet is smaller than in the past — Etihad has only brought back four of the 10 jets it originally flew — but hey, that’s still better than nothing.

Delta Flight Museum announced the return of DC-3 tours. Starting Tuesday, June 4th, the museum will regularly offer tours of Ship 41, the only Delta passenger Douglas DC-3 still in existence. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) issued a new airworthiness directive (AD) for specific Piper aircraft models after an unscheduled inspection, prompted by a ground collision with an automobile, revealed a double-drilled bolt hole in the rear wing spar attachment fitting. The FAA says the AD will affect some 500 U.S.-registered aircraft—including certain serial-numbered Piper models PA-28-181, PA-28R-201, PA-34-220T, and PA-44-180.
