Game On!

Plane and Pilot

She walked me through the foyer to the spotless, freshly painted hangar. The GameBird is right at home on the grass, pavement, or TacAeros clean hangar. The Texas winds were gusting anywhere from 15-25 knots, and like other aerobatic airplanes, the canopy can be easily blown off. Before I knew it we had already hit 120 knots.

First Flight 2025

Gary's Flight Journal

I did an abbreviated video at the hangar yesterday showing some of my preflight, off camera I did an extensive check of the plane, she is good to go. Once reaching 153 degrees I was ready to taxi to runway one-four. We each saddled up and taxied for one six, Charles was first then I pointed down the runway for home.

Two Weeks in the RV

Plane and Pilot

Kentland has a 4,000-foot runway, east/west, with a crosswind straight out of the north. Nobody answered on unicom, and the facilities were at the west end of the airport, so I decided on left traffic for Runway 27. Pilot Institute

This lateral movement takes place at a speed of about two or three knots. After one aircraft lands, the tailwind pushes the vortices forward into the runways touchdown zone. This lateral movement of vortices is important to know for pilots flying into airports with parallel runways.

We departed his home field on the 5,000-foot runway. Off the runway, the VSI indicating a climb, Walt reached for the switch to raise the gear. We need to slow to 87 knots and we can push this lever here, he said, pointing to the release lever between the seats. Walt trimmed for 85 knots and we watched for a light.

A Stearman, a POW, and the World’s Busiest Airport

Air Facts

Our old and slow Stearman PT-17 biplanes were racing along at 65 mph as we were fighting a 20-knot headwind, so we were still almost 15 minutes from touchdown! We made a nice two ship formation landing on runway 8L and were directed to taxi to Deltas (TOC) ramp which is located mid-field. You just have to be there to experience it.

Air Facts

Centerline, centerline, centerline Air Facts Journal It was a beautiful May day as we grabbed the tow bar to pull the 1981 Cessna 182 out of the hangar. After one last check to my left to make sure there weren’t any yahoos on an unapproved short final (old habit), I took the runway then pressed the throttle in to full power.
