I learned during the process that all Canadian IFR flight plans require an alternate airport regardless of weather conditions. In the US, the requirement to file an alternate is contingent on weather forecast within an hour of arrival at the destination as described by the “1-2-3 rule”. Delta was current at Kingston.

I also secured hangar space for the week to the tune of $75 a night. I launched from runway three-two and pointed for the Snow Hill VOR. Once south of Myrtle Beach I was turned direct Charleston VOR. The weather is perfect with a cool breeze as we searched for sone late lunch. This is where the fun started.
