Unlike many J-3-based Cubs, this example has a full electrical system, enabling easy starts, and a panel-mounted radio and transponder. Also, unlike many J-3-based Cubs, this one has both left- and right-side cockpit doors.

A spring switch in the cockpit controlled the turbocharger wastegate, to select whether the turbocharger was engaged or bypassed (or midrange). The controller issued a discrete transponder code, and no additional communications were observed, and no services were provided. Icing can often be concentrated near the tops of the clouds.
